Question:

What protocols does Folderscape use to communicate with filers?

Answer:

Folderscape uses a combination of the following protocols:

  • CIFS
  • NFS
  • Windows RPC
  • RSH
  • SSH
  • ONTAPI via HTTP
  • ONTAPI via HTTPS
These protocols do not need to all be available to use Folderscape. For example, Folderscape can use either HTTP or HTTPS, depending upon which one you have specified on your filer for API access, but you won't need to make both available. As another example, you don't need to have NFS available for a filer that isn't using Unix volumes, nor do you need CIFS available for a filer that isn't using Windows volumes.
